About Us

Xavier began teaching socially in his late teens, while still living in Mexico. When he moved to the United States, he began working with Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Southern California. It was through their training that he mastered his first levels of professional certification in Ballroom Dancing. A few years later, he relocated to Northern California and began teaching private and group ballroom dance classes with Steps & Variations, which was the most popular studio in the area at the time. After a few years he had established a strong student base.

Heidi dabbled in a variety of dance forms throughout her teens: Modern, Jazz, Hula, Tap, Flamenco, Sevillanas and Belly Dance, but Ballet was her first passion. In her twenties, she began teaching basic Ballet and Aerobic Dance classes at MJC. Seeking more variety, she began taking Ballroom Dance classes at Steps & Variations, and soon decided to train in their Ballroom Dance instructor certification program. She had just completed her first certifications when the studio closed.

Dedicated dance students found churches, halls, and homes, in which Xavier could continue teaching them. Having become good friends with Heidi, he asked her if she would be interested in assisting him. She said “yes,” and the first steps were set towards establishing You Can Dance Co...

We soon realized that there was a growing demand for our instruction, and in 1993 we opened our own studio. We continued to take workshops, master classes and seminars, and as we improved upon our knowledge of dance, our studio also grew. You Can Dance Co. has now been teaching ballroom dance in the Central Valley for over 25 years.
